Mesalands Community College’s Board of Trustees Vice Chair seeks election in the Association of Community College Trustees.
Jimmy Sandoval of Tucumcari has entered his bid for a position on the ACCT”S diversity committee.
Sandoval said he has been actively involved in the community as an elected City Commissioner and has served on the Board of Trustees at Mesalands for 16 years.
“I have always been interested in helping our people achieve the dream of equality through education,” Sandoval said. “Today, I see not only many Hispanic children but children of all cultures being passed over by society because of lack of education and inspiration.”
Sandoval said the challenge the community faces with diversity today is in educating everyone, not just minorities, to function in a diverse environment.
“Mr. Sandoval has served on the Board of Trustees for Mesalands for the last 16 years and we are proud of his dedication and commitment to the growth of the college,” said Phillip O. Barry, Mesalands president. “Mr. Sandoval would be a great contribution to the Association of Community College Diversity Committee because he has always been actively promoting the importance of diversity.”
Sandoval said education assures that communities will be more productive and respectful of the unique differences everyone possess.
“Diversity is our strength,” Sandoval said.
