Tucumcari City Commission approved the submission of two Tucumcari Community Development grant applications for 2011.

The commission approved the grant submission to the New Mexico Energy and Natural Resources Department and the New Mexico Forest Re-Leaf Program for $6,000.

The money will be used to plant 60 trees at the city softball fields, said Yvette Fazekas, Tucumcari’s community development projects coordinator.

Fazekas said the in-kind match for this project is $2,520, bringing the project total to $8,520.

A second grant submission of $51,000 was approved by the commission for the Youth Conservation Corps.

Fazekas said the money will be used to employ six youths from 16-25 years old and one 21-25-year-old crew leader to work on and clean city parks.
