Fishing report — Oct. 27

Area lake reports

Conchas Lake —Fishing is improving as temperatures cool down. White bass fishing is fair. All methods are working with a few big fish reported. Catfish fishing is good with chicken liver. A few small walleye and a few large crappie have been caught on worms or minnows.

Ute Lake -Lonnie Siebrandt from Hobbs caught and released a 4.2 pound smallmouth bass on Oct.16. The fish was 20 inches long. Water temperature is around 64 degrees. The lake is clear and river arms are cloudy. Over all the fishing pressure is light, but the fishing is starting to pick up a bit. Walleye fishing is fair. Expect about 1 fish per hour trolling in 20 feet of water over brush using minnows. White-bass fishing is fair, Troll deep running lures in the main channel. Expect 2 fish per hour.

Smallmouth bass fishing is excellent using orange colored crank baits in 10 feet of water and drifting minnows in 10 feet of water. Most fish are 10-12 inches long, but there are a bunch of them.
