Mesalands Community College is currently in discussion with an international turbine manufacturing firm to bring one of the largest wind turbines in the industry to Tucumcari. If Tucumcari is selected, the manufacturing firm plans to install the turbine before the end of next year.
According to Phillip O. Barry, Mesalands president, this project could promote economic growth and development in Tucumcari and the surrounding areas.
“This project would not only enhance the critical research portion of the North American Wind Research and Training Center, but could essentially encourage other large manufacturing firms to come to our community,” Barry said.
Barry says the college is currently supplying the international turbine manufacturing firm with information regarding electrical distribution in town, sustainability information, and possible locations where the turbine might be installed.
The impetus of this manufacturer coming to Tucumcari is the recent establishment of the North American Wind Research and Training Center.
