The Tucumcari KENW-TV transmitter is out of service as of Monday afternoon while station employees work to restore service. KENW program director Duane Ryan said the station’s repair crew hopes to have the channel back on by tonight. Tucumcari resident Marilyn Ford reported having poor reception of the local PBS station on her television for about two weeks and said reception has been completely out on her set since Thursday.
Ryan said the station’s repair crew hopes to have the channel back on by tonight, citing an outage on the station’s three-year-old transmitter located on Tucumcari Mountain as the source of the problem.
“Of course (the transmitter) has a one-year warranty, naturally, but we’re a little distressed to have a major failure this soon. They usually last a lot longer, but our guys, they worked all day Thursday last week and they thought they had it temporarily patched up. I think it lasted a little bit on Friday and then it went out again, so they’re up there again today with new parts and hopefully they’ll get it going. It’s one of those things, when you have electronic equipment, that’s what happens sometimes, and we don’t have any backup,” Ryan said.
