Press release: Mesalands board holds presidential forums

After 15 years of distinguished service, Phillip O. Barry, president of Mesalands Community College, will be retiring this year. With the assistance of the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT), the Mesalands Board of Trustees has conducted a nationwide search for the next college president.

An Initial Presidential Screening (IPS) Committee composed of board members, community members and college staff has also assisted the board in reviewing the candidates.

After a nationwide search, the board is pleased to announce the four finalists for the position of president of Mesalands Community College. The four finalists are as follows: Larry Edwards from Oklahoma City,; Jimmy Cargill from Glendive, Mont.; Veldon Law from Las Vegas, Nev. and Mildred Lovato from Albuquerque. Each candidate will have campus interviews with the Board of Trustees and tours of the campus. The campus visits will also include public forums with members of the college and the local community. The public forums are from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on:

Larry Edwards will interview Monday, followed by Jimmy Cargill on March 9, Veldon Law on March 10 and Mildred Lovato on March 11.

The community is encouraged to attend these public forums in an effort to assist the college in selecting the next president.
