Census shows increases in Clovis, Portales; declines for Tucumcari

The U.S. Census released numbers for New Mexico today that show substantial increases in the populations of Clovis and Portales.

There are 2,059,179 New Mexicans, according to the count.

Clovis’ population grew from 32,667 to 37,775 from the 2000 census to the 2010 census, a jump of 15.6 percent.

Portales’ growth was 10.3 percent, with a jump from 11,131 to 12,280.

In Tucumcari, the population went down 8.95 percent, from 5989 to 5,363.
