Electrical power was restored in Tucumcari on Sunday after an almost six-hour outage apparently caused by a wildfire near Forest that took out a major power line.
The city lost power just before 9 a.m. and began experiencing restoration shortly after 2:30 p.m.
Xcel Energy Media Relations Director Wes Reeves said construction crews are still working on the transmission line but no more outages are expected.
The fire Saturday afternoon charred an estimated 25,000 acres across southern Quay and northern Curry counties.
Tucumcari Fire Chief Mike Cherry said the fire has mostly been contained.
Reeves said it appears the wildfire damaged the power line but it remained attached to damaged poles and continued transmitting power through the night until high winds today blew over one of the poles Sunday morning. Reeves said 16 power poles were lost to the fire.
