Teen qualifies for horse show

Rebecca Alden, 16, of Tucumcari, a member of the Mesalands Community College Rodeo Team, is a qualifier for the 2011 Built Ford Tough American Quarter Horse Youth Association (AQHYA) World Championship Show.

Her American Quarter Horses Majors Robin Hood and Hott Flash will be competing in the Ford Youth World Show on Aug. 5-13, in Oklahoma City.

It is Alden’s second year on the Mesalands rodeo team. She is a recipient of the Mesalands Rodeo Talent Grant, the Meagan McCain Memorial Scholarship, and the New Mexico Legislative Lottery Scholarship.

At the Ford Youth World Show Alden and Hott Flash will be competing in the western pleasure event, hunt seat equitation, and western riding. Alden and Majors Robin Hood will also be competing in barrel racing.
