A high snap ended the Dexter Demons’ hopes for a fourth-quarter comeback Friday against Tucumcari Rattlers at Rattler Stadium.
Junior Amador Amaya scrambled after the football and covered it up from the Rattlers as the final horn sounded.
The Demons (1-6) had taken possession of the ball with 12 seconds left in the game trailing the Rattlers 19-17.
The Rattlers failed to convert on a fourth-and-two on the Demons 32-yard-line, turning the ball over on downs.
The Rattlers (5-2) also had five turnovers — three fumbles and two interceptions.
However, the Demons were only able to capitalize on one of the turnovers; a George Montano fumble; with a 2-yard touchdown by Amaya.
The Demons offensive mimicked the motions of a yo-yo. Four times the Demons gain yardage only to be called back due to a penalty or high snap.
Montano threw a 6 yard touchdown to Justin Garcia and rushed 65 yards for a touchdown.
The Rattlers next game will be at 7 p.m., Friday @ Clayton.
