Two men were arrested Monday after leading police on a chase on Interstate 40 east of Tucumcari in which the suspects’ vehicle reached speeds of up to 140 mph, according to New Mexico State Police officials.

Gilbert Moreno, 27, of Albuquerque, Jason Decarlo, 23, of Groesbeck, Texas, were taken into custody without incident after their vehicle ran out of gas, ending the 30-mile pursuit, said Sgt. Robert McDonald, state police public information officer.

McDonald said Moreno and Decarlo were traveling in a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt reported stolen from Albuquerque.

A woman who said she was traveling with the men in a separate vehicle was also arrested at the scene for marijuana possession, McDonald said.

McDonald said state police had received information that the suspects had shoplifted from a Circle K in Tucumcari.

“State Police and officers with the Motor Transportation Department located the vehicle traveling eastbound on I-40, east of Tucumcari,” McDonald said.

McDonald said officers found a small amount of marijuana inside her vehicle.

All three are being held at the Quay County Detention Center.
