Local youth attended a presentation for Flag Day Thursday at the Tucumcari Public Library hosted by the Daughters of the American Revolution.
As a part of the local Flag Day celebrations, the local DAR chapter entertained and educated the children enrolled in the library's summer reading program.
"We want children from a young age to recognize that the American Flag is a symbol for our country and it is what makes us the United States of America," said Glenda Reid, DAR flag chairwoman.
The children listened as Gwen Gray read aloud "F is for the Flag" written by Wendy Cheyette Lewison.
Barbara Cherry, DAR member, asked the kids a series of questions about the American Flag.
"I was shocked that so many of the children knew the answer to the questions," Cherry said.
Cherry said she developed the questions to ask the children, they were made to help educate the children on the history and meaning of the flag.
"It (the flag) represents that we are Americans," said 10 year old Emily Lopez.
A second book was read to the children, "Flag Day" written by Robin Nelson. Reid said both books will be donated to the library.
