NMSU Cooperative Extension Services is offering a Diabetes Cooking School at Mesalands Community College.
It is a special cooking school aimed at helping people with diabetes learn how to prepare delicious foods and manage their blood sugar levels.
The school will meet for three hours each morning April 24, May 1, May 8, and May 15. The schools are funded by a grant from the New Mexico Department of Health Diabetes Prevention and Control Program and are free to participants.
The classes will be taught by Brenda Bishop and Jessie Robinson from curriculum prepared by specialists.
The first session will cover meal planning. The second session will cover carbohydrates and desserts. The third session will cover side dishes and the last session will be main dishes and low-fat cooking.
Participants will receive a notebook of information and two cookbooks. During each class, participants will prepare and sample four dishes.
Seating will be limited to 25 and priority goes to people with diabetes.
The cooking school is free but pre-registration is a must and the participants must attend all four sessions.
