4-H members compete at state conference

Quay County Senior 4-H members competed at the State 4-H Conference, bringing home two first-place team awards and placing three teams and one individual in the top five.

The senior 4-Hers, ages 15-18, competed in contests, attended leadership workshops, and elected new state officers July 9-10 at New Mexico State University at Las Cruces.

First-place team honors went to:

• Quay County’s entomology team of Ashlee Bradley, Taylor Hayes, and Randall Rush. Hayes was fifth high individual and Randall was high-point. Randall received a scholarship to NMSU.

• Quay County’s Home Economics Bowl Team of Taylor Hayes, Aleahna Branch, Wyatt Bishop and Ashlee Bradley placed first and will go on to the National Competition in January at Denver Colo.

Second place honors went to:

• Horticulture Team of Aleahna Branch, Randall Rush, and Taylor Hayes placed second. Hayes was high-point individual.

Third-place honors went to:

• Quay County’s Home Economics Skill-a-thon Team of Taylor Hayes, Aleahna Branch, Wyatt Bishop and Ashlee Bradley. Hayes was third high individual.

• Impromptu Public Speaking Ashlee Bradley.

Fourth-place honors went to Quay County’s Land team of Ashlee Bradley, Cody Massey, and Randall Rush. Rush was high-point individual.
