School began Monday for 1,470 Kindergarten through 12th grade students in Quay County’s public schools. Districts reported that their enrollment numbers showed only slight changes from last year’s enrollment.

In Tucumcari, 1,024 students started the school year. Dave Johnson, assistant superintendent said. Some 531 were enrolled at Tucumcari Elementary School, 226 were enrolled in Tucumcari Middle School, and 263 started at Tucumcari High School.

In Logan, 268 students appeared on the rolls. There were 114 elementary students, 52 middle schoolers and 102 high school students enrolled, according to Patty Walker, secretary to the superintendent.

House School contained 18 elementary students, 17 junior high school students and 15 high school students. In addition, House’s alternative school, which accommodates high school-age students who have difficulty in normal classrooms, enrolled 17 students. House’s total enrollment was 50.

In San Jon, 132 students enrolled, but a breakdown by grade level was not available.
