Quay County’s unemployment rate declined by a full percentage point from July to August.
The August unemployment rate was 6.2 percent, compared with 7.2 percent in July, according to figures from the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions.
Quay County’s workforce dropped by 115, or 3 percent, from 3,895 in July to 3,780 in August.
The August rate was also a percentage point below the same month last year. The workforce in August 2012 stood at 3,835, DWS figures show.
New Mexico’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 6.8 percent in August 2013, down from 6.9 percent in July and also down from 7.0 percent a year ago, DWS reported.
The rate of over-the-year job growth, comparing August 2013 with August 2012, was 0.9 percent, representing a gain of 6,900 jobs statewide.
