QCS Staff

The San Jon Lady Coyotes and Logan Lady Longhorns will both be competing in volleyball state tournament pool play in Rio Rancho — San Jon for the first time ever and Logan for the first time in nearly a decade.

The sixth-seed Lady Coyotes will be competing in pool play with second-seed Carrizozo, third-seed Corona and seventh-seed Gateway Christian.

The girls have a good shot at making the finals, said Tyra Moore, Lady Coyotes head coach.

Moore said if the Coytoes play up to their ability, they have a chance at making the long run in the state tournament.

The (12-7) (6-2) Lady Coyotes advanced to pool play from Class B District 2 along with the first-seed Elida Lady Tigers.

The Lady Coyotes secured a seed in the tournament by defeating the Grady Lady Bronchos 3-0 on Nov. 7 in the first round of the district playoffs. They lost (3-0) to the Lady Tigers the following night for the district championship.

The seventh-seed (14-7) (2-3) Lady Longhorns advance to state tournament pool play after defeating the Melrose Lady Buffaloes 3-2 on Nov. 5, in the first round of the 1A District 3 playoffs.

The Lady Longhorns advance to the state tournament with the first-seed Fort Sumner Vixens who they lost 3-1 on Nov. 7 for the district championship.
