Driving on I-40 and U.S. 54 difficult; Freezing fog may leave icy glaze

The New Mexico Dept. of Transportation reports difficult driving conditions on:

I-40 from Clines Corners to the Texas state line: Roadway is icy as it is getting freezing rain sleet. Crews are out plowing, salting and cindering. Please drive with caution as there may be icy spots, reduce speed and obey all posted traffic signs.

U.S. 54 from Tucumcari to Nara Visa: Roadway is snow-packed and icy with light snowfall. Crews are out plowing, salting and cindering. Please drive with caution as there may be icy spots. Reduce speed and obey all posted traffic signs.

The National Weather Service advises thtat freezing fog may also deposit a thin glaze of ice on roads. Travelers are urged to slow down and allow extra time to reach their destination. Very light snow will continue across the northeast and east central plains. Additional accumulations will be less than one quarter inch through 11 a.m. Bitter cold temperatures will continue in Quay County and surrounding areas today.
Areas of light freezing drizzle are forecast to expand in coverage across parts of the eastern plains tonight along with occasional light snow or even pockets of sleet. This may result in localized impacts to travel but widespread significant impacts are not expected.
