Hazardous driving on I-40 Saturday morning

From the New Mexico Dept. of Transportation:

Interstate 40 from Tucumcari to the Texas state line: Roadway is snowpacked and icy.  Crews are out plowing, salting and cindering.  Please drive with caution reduce speed and obey all posted traffic signs.

From the National Weather Service:

A winter weather advisory for snow remains in effect until 5 this afternoon:


  • snow accumulations…1 to 3 inches.


  • timing…snow will this morning before tapering off during the late afternoon.


  • winds…northwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts to around 35 mph.


  • snow levels…a mix of rain and snow over the eastern plains will become all snow this morning.


  • local impacts…hazardous winter driving conditions can beexpected along with reduced visibility in snow and blowing snow.


A winter weather advisory for snow means that periods of snow will primarily cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities.
