Letters to the editor — Dec. 31

Christ belongs in Christmas

Recently watching the news, I was surprised and appalled on how lazy we as Christians have become when it comes to Christmas and our traditions.

This is a holiday that all Christians celebrate the birth of our Savior and King of our lives. We do not say much when other religions have their days to celebrate. We do not protest because they worship and believe differently. We just let them celebrate what they believe.

So why is it at Christmas, people change songs and the name of the holiday that we have treasured and loved for years to something that they hope will not offend?

If I do not believe in what others believe I just do not participate. The last time I looked we do have the freedom of religion and to worship who we believe to be our Lord and Savior.

Christmas is a time to give, just as our Savior gave his life for us, so that we may live. Christmas gives us hope that there is a better tomorrow. It gives us a time to give to our friends and loved ones to let them know what love and giving is. Christmas is not just about getting presents, it is about giving back of ourselves to those who have helped us, or to give to those who are less fortunate than others.

In this world where the news is always negative, isn’t it great that we have a time to open our hearts and lives? I hope and pray there are others that feel the way I do, and please give us as Christians, not a “happy holiday” but Christmas and our songs of worship, to celebrate the birth of the One who is our reason for the season and our Savior.
