Tractor Supply Co., a Brentwood, Tenn.-based farm supply and hardware retailer, plans to open a nearly 19,100-square foot outlet in Tucumcari in September, spokesperson Rob Hoskins said Wednesday. The company would not disclose the address of the proposed new store, Hoskins said.

The store plans to place some emphasis on lawn-and-garden and animal care products at its Tucumcari location but sell a full line of farm, yard and outdoor products for rural homes and farms.

The Tucumcari area “was attractive due to the part-time and hobby farmers, and horse owners in the area,” Hoskins said in a statement. The Tucumcari Tractor Supply store plans to employ between 12-17 full and part-time workers, Hoskins said.

Tractor Supply currently operates a store in Clovis and in 10 other New Mexico locations.

The company has placed employment advertising seeking a store manager for Tucumcari on the New Mexico Dept. of Workforce Solutions website.

Tractor Supply Company calls itself the “largest retail farm and ranch store chain in the United States,” according to its website. The company operates over 1,245 retail stores in 48 states, employs more than 18,000 people. Its stock is traded on the NASDAQ exchange under the symbol TSCO.

The company was founded in 1938 and its current annual revenues are about $4.7 billion, its website says.
