The Tucumcari Rattlers wrestling team competed in two separate tournaments, gaining more mat time that head coach Eddie Encinias says will help them prepare for district competition.

“We had six of nine underclassmen place at the Amarillo High tournament Thursday in Amarillo,” Encinias said

The Rattlers traveled to Pecos on Saturday and had five wrestlers place at that tournament.

Encinias said he is pleased with how the seniors performed and proud of how the underclassmen stepped up last weekend. He said the team is working hard knowing district and state competition is just around the corner

The Rattlers will travel to Ruidoso on Saturday to take part in the Sierra Blanca Invite, where they will get a chance to see tough competitors from Cobre and Silver City, two of the top teams in the state, Encinias said.
