Firefighters train with car extrication equipment

Firefighters and Emergency Medical Service personnel from 12 New Mexico fire departments cut, bent and pried their way through 15 vehicles Saturday in Tucumcari as they learned how to get people out of wrecked cars, Quay County Fire Marshal Donald Adams said.

Ed’s Recycling of Tucumcari donated 15 wrecked cars first responders systematically dissembled as they learned how to use hydraulically operated cutting, prying and bending tools to clear vehicle components from trapped passengers, Adams said.

In all, 63 emergency personnel participated in the training session. They represented fire departments from Tucumcari, Santa Rosa, Jaal, Tijeras, Floyd, Capitan, Grady, Rosebud, Texico, Quay Couny Rural District 1, the Quay Fire Department and the Bard-Endee Fire Dept.
