Tucumcari Ranch Supply and Watson’s Barbecue marked the first day of summer with  a “Welcome Summer Lot Party” featuring booths selling baked goods, refreshments and merchandise, information booths and live entertainment.

Among the performers were Rick Haymaker, who played duets with a young guitar student, Garrett Lopez; Hannah Mericle, who recently opened the Hannah M. Dance with Me dance instruction studio; and the Northeast New Mexico Bluegrass band.

Nadine Carter and Ricky Haralson, rangers with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Conchas Lake brought their water safety exhibit, but also counseled  kids to seek college degrees as they talked about the importance of wearing life jackets when traveling by boat and other water safety tips.

Stella Watson, who manages the store with her husband Jimmy Watson, said the day was “awesome.”

Hundreds of visitors appeared, she said.  “We were amazed at the turnout,” she said.

As an indicator of the event’s success, she said, Watson’s Barbecue ran out of food at about 3 p.m., “even the food we had set aside for later in the week.”
