Quay 4-H entomology team wins second place at state

Quay County 4-Hers won second-place honors in state competition last week at the New Mexico 4-H conference, Brenda Bishop, county 4-H coordinator said.

One of the team members, Taylor Hayes, completed a State Level Record Book and won a trip to the National 4H Congress in Atlanta, Georgia, over Thanksgiving weekend, Bishop said.

Other members of Quay County’s winning entomology team were Rebecca Rush and Ashlee Bradley.

The same three also made up Quay County’s land judging team, which third statewide.

The three were among five Quay County 4-Hers who attended the state conference, Bishop said.

Quay County’s horticulture team of Taylor Hayes, Aleahna Branch and Ashlee Bradley placed fourth in the state. Taylor Hayes scored second-high individual honors.

The county’s home economics skill-a-thon Team of Aleahna Branch, Taylor Hayes, Wyatt Bishop and Ashlee Bradley earned fourth-place honors at the state competition. Taylor Hayes was the fourth-high individual scorer.

Wyatt Bishop placed fifth in impromptu public speaking, Bishop said.
