The Quay County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Monday at the commission chambers at the Quay County Courthouse.
Commissioners in attendance were: Commission Chair Franklin McCasland, District 1 Commissioner Sue Dowel and District 2 Commissioner Mike Cherry.
County Manager Richard Primrose and County Clerk Veronica Marez were present for the meeting.
Items before the commissioners:
• Quay County Sheriff Russell Shafer gave an activity report to the commissioners.
From April 20-June 5, his department answered 352 calls for service; served 342 paper services; transported 29 inmates; issued 60 citations; arrested/served 32 warrants.
• Approved three contract with Santa Fe, Lea and McKinley counties to house juveniles at their detention centers. Currently, the Quay County Juvenile Detention Center is closed. The daily charge for the three counties to house inmates is Santa Fe at $185, Lea at $125 and McKinley at $108. Commissioners recommended using McKinley for housing of the inmates. McKinley has agreed to meet the transport halfway to pick up the inmate, said T.J. Rich, Quay County Detention Center administrator
• Approved three agreements with the New Mexico Transportation Department for $575,078, to be used for improvements on Quay Road 63/Cemetery Road presented by Larry Moore, county road superintendent
• Approved the DWI Grant fourth quarter financial report.
Commissioners held an executive session for the discussion of threatened or pending litigation and the discussion of the purchase, acquisition or disposal of real property or water rights. Commissioners took no action.
