Youth recognized for Character Counts, FCCLA

Character Counts...

The Tucumcari Middle School held a Character Counts assembly recently honoring students participating in the program.

The purpose of the Character Counts program is to fortify the lives of America’s young people with ethical values called the “Six Pillars of Character.” These values, which transcend divisions of race, creed, politics, gender and wealth, are: Trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.

Character Counts was established by the nonprofit Josephson Institute of Ethics in 1992 to promote the development of character in today's youth.

Tucumcari middle school character awards went to:

Sixth Grade

Respect: Kyle Lease and Larissa Anaya

Responsibility: Luke Smith, Randolph Dominguez, Zach Johnson and Kiarra Trujillo

Trustworthiness: Keanette Perkins and Daniel Hight

Seventh Grade

Respect: Lorena Villa and Justin Garcia

Responsibility: Anna Grady and Antonio Rodriguez

Trustworthiness: Bethany Bishop and Sonam Bhakta

Eighth Grade

Respect: Rebecca Smith and Jay Hare

Responsibility: Matt Pacheco, Cameron Montano and Felicia Lopez

Trustworthiness: Jantzen Darnell

Power Team

Respect: Dominque Martinez

Responsibility: Lorena Villa

Trustworthiness: Jacob Lopez.

State FCCLA Awards:

FCCLA Awards at the State Competition in the junior divison went to:

Artistic Decoration: Katie Lamm, Silver Medal, 2nd place

Crudites Tray: Bethany Bishop and Jenna Morris, Silver medal, 5th place. Sonam Bhakta and Kassidi Ulibarri, Silver medal, 4th place .

Decorated Cake: Felicia Lopez, Bronze medal, 7th place.

Chapter Showcase Manual:

Katie Lamm and Sara Reed, Bronze Medal, 5th place.

Entrepreneurship: Holly Binkley and Sharayah Sisneros, Silver Medal, 3rd place.

Illustrated Talk: Holly Baxter, Silver Medal, 3rd place.

The chapter also won first place in the Outstanding FCCLA Chapter Award for their work on the Eat Smart I Play Hard "Connections" program.

Participants in the program were: Sharayah Sisneros, Anna Grady, Sara Reed, Jenna Morris, Michelle Fazekas, Autumn Vose, Sonam Bhakta, Holly Binkley, Isabel Herrera, Taylor Atwood, Holly Baxter, Kassidi Ulibarri, Felicia Lopez, Tiffany Bruhn, Layla Nugali, Katie Lamm, Bethany Bishop, Krista Francis, Erika Tafoya, Dezarae Valverde and Nicole Romero.
