City could benefit from curfews

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

Am I alone in thinking we need a curfew in this town?

I woke up recently to find my mail box smashed flat. Just one of many around town, I guess.

This latest wave of destruction is part of a problem that has been going on in Tucumcari for many years. I had visitors from back East a while back, and they could not believe our citizens put up with this constant destruction — broken windows, shot-out windows, slashed tires, on and on, for years!

And it seems nothing is ever done. No one is ever brought to justice.

When I was a teen in the 1950s I don’t ever remember not being under a curfew. The curfew was 10:30 p.m. If you chose to vandalize property, your parents paid for the damages. And you paid.

I think it is time we changed this disgraceful situation.

Should schools provide an additional fresh fruit and vegetable snack for elementary students during the day?
Yes. If we teach children early about healthy eating habits they are less likely to develop health problems.
No. The school's lunch program is already designed to provide a nutritious meal for our children and that is all they need.
Kids will just eat what they want.
