Clovis girls place first, boys second at Hobbs meet
The Clovis girls swim team cruised to a first-place finish, and the boys finished second at Saturday’s meet at Hobbs.
“The kids swam very, very well,” Clovis coach Vince de Maio said.
The girls scored 311 points, easily besting Andrews, Texas (194) for the win among the nine-team field.
Augustina Snipes, Portia Gibbons, Martha Chace and Jill Southard each claimed first-place event wins, and the girls scored a pair of relay wins in the 400 freestyle and 200 medley.
The boys finished with 257 points, well behind Hobbs’ 404 points for first.
“The boys simply got outweighed,” de Maio said. “(Hobbs) had too many swimmers in the other events.”
Nick de Maio and eighth-grader Lucas Brock each claimed a pair of event wins, and Clovis captured 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay wins.
Clovis returns to action next week at Seminole, Texas.
