Anniversary, birthdays, DAR

Baby born...
Jason and Theresa Lafferty of Tucumcari are the parents of an 8 lb., 3 oz. baby boy who was born on May 5 in Amarillo, Texas, at St. Anthony's Hospital. Named Logan Jason Wilbur Lafferty, he has one sister, July, who is 19 months old. His grandparents are Ted and Rose Chavez, Ed and Donna Lafferty, and Donald and Esther Rodgers, all of of Tucumcari.

40 years and counting...
Kenny and Peggy Terry of Amarillo, Texas will be celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary on June 28 at 2 p.m. at The Church at Quail Creek Parlor Room in Amarillo. The couple were married on June 30, 1968 in Floyd. The celebration is being hosted by their children, and friends and relatives are invited to attend. Kenny Terry is a retired state police officer and Peggy Terry is a homemaker.

DAR recognition..
The Tucumcari Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution recognized area citizens for their contributions to the community, according to a DAR press release.
Jack and Betty White received the Community Service Award. Their volunteer work with the Ministry of Hope has had a big impact on our community.
Two awards for the proper display of the flag of the United States were presented. Jenny Lou Molinas, exalted ruler of the Tucumcari B.P.O. Elks Lodge accepted the award on behalf of the Lodge for their flag display. Accepting the certificate for a flag flown by an individual was Glen “Bear” and Rose Whitener.
The Woman in American History Award was presented to Maxine Wallace. Her volunteer service and lifestyle exemplifies our American way of life.

Altrusa scholarships...
Altrusa International of Tucumcari designates $1,500 each year to be awarded in scholarships. The 2007-2008 Vocational Committee Chairman, Gail Owen, recently announced the distinguished four high school students and one Mesalands Community College student who each received a $300 scholarship to a school of higher learning for this coming fall.
They are:
l Tucumcari High School: Michael Martinez
l San Jon High School: Ysidra Tellez
l House High School: Angelina Romo
l Logan High School: Bridgette Miller
l Mesalands Community College: Vicki Wallace
