The Department of Music at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales will present the operetta Die Fledermaus in the Campus Union Ballroom with a dinner this weekend. The performance is directed by Jeannie Ornellas, ENMU music professor.

The cast features new assistant professor of voice Jason Vest as the rejected suitor Alfred, and ENMU graduate Caleb Howl as Eisenstein. Other roles are performed by ENMU students and students from the 1-2-1 Chinese exchange program.

The operetta tells the story of Prince Orlovsky, a young Russian with so much money it bores him, who is seeking new entertainment for his grand party. At the same time, Dr. Falke is seeking revenge on his good friend Gabriel Eisenstein for a trick that Eisenstein played on him some years before. With hidden identities, dancing and drinking, the “Revenge of the Bat” is accomplished.
