Dora squads post wins — Dora’s boys and girls were also victorious in Thursday’s opening round of the Battle of the Border tournament, at Tatum.

Dora teams defeated Wink, Texas, the boys winning 43-37 while the girls posted a 53-41 triumph, and will face Hobbs junior varsity squads today, the boys at 6 p.m. and the girls at 7:30 p.m.

Mark Butler scored 20 points and Michael Puebla added 11 for the Coyotes (3-0). Meantime, the Lady Coyotes (3-0) got 21 points from Kelli Merrick and 10 from Tori Varnell.

Floyd teams snowed out — Floyd’s basketball teams were scheduled to play in tournament on Thursday, but both events were postponed.

The boys were part of the Grady Round-Robin, which cancelled its Thursday schedule and plans to play Friday and Saturday games as scheduled. The Broncos are slated to take on Clovis Christian at 1 p.m. Friday and host Grady at 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Lady Broncos are in the Lady Lion Classic at Santa Rosa, which pushed its Thursday schedule back to Friday. The Lady Broncos take on McCurdy in a 5:30 p.m. quarterfinal contest.

Semifinals and finals will now be played on Saturday, starting with a consolation semifinal at 10:30 a.m. and ending with the championship game at 7:30 p.m.

Should schools provide an additional fresh fruit and vegetable snack for elementary students during the day?
Yes. If we teach children early about healthy eating habits they are less likely to develop health problems.
No. The school's lunch program is already designed to provide a nutritious meal for our children and that is all they need.
Kids will just eat what they want.
