Helen B. Wood, 87, a long time resident of Tucumcari and San Jon, died in Clovis on Monday July 17, 2007. She was born in Brookhaven, Miss., to Joseph and Emma Bradley Starling on April 11, 1920. She was the youngest member of the Starling family and was preceded in death by her three brothers and four sisters.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Horace Wood of Tucumcari, one son: Joe (Joy) Wood of Austin, Texas, two daughters: Sue (Sammy) Gholson and Andria (David) Smith of Tucumcari, seven grandchildren: Cathy Watkins, Andy Tiillman, Dan Gholson, Lesley Arguello, Jason Smith, Jared Smith and Adam Smith and nine great grandchildren.
Mrs. Wood was a stay at home wife and mother until her children finished school. She then worked with the Tucumcari school system as a teacher’s aid, working mostly as a tutor giving extra help to children with a particular need. She loved her family, her work with school children and especially liked to travel, her family said. She was a member of the Center Street United Methodist Church in Tucumcari.
Tom Broom will officiate at the services.
