The Quay County Fair will be here in just one week and now is the time to start preparing your entries for the Home Arts departments. Fair books are available at businesses around the county and at the Quay County Extension Office.
The fair has been shortened by one day. We will be taking open-class Home Arts entries on Tuesday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 .a.m. until noon. Check out will be Aug. 14 at 9 p.m.
The Home Arts departments are located in the north end of the fair building and consist of baking, canning, clothing, needlework, quilts, fine arts, crafts & hobbies, ceramics, dolls, Girl Scouts, 4-H educational, agricultural products, club, educational, and commercial booths and the flower show.
To enter, all you have to do is take your items to the appropriate department. The superintendents will help you fill out the entry form and tag your exhibit. Entries in these departments are open to any resident of Quay County and Conchas, and there are no entry fees. Each department will have junior and adult divisions, with professionals being judged separately from amateurs.
Each person can only enter one item in each lot, so if you have two leather billfolds, please choose your best. All winners receive premium money in addition to ribbons.
Exhibits may be picked up at the fairgrounds after 9 p.m. on Aug. 14 or after noon on Aug. 16 at the extension office. Please do not enter items that you need before 9 p.m. on Aug. 16. No matter what the excuse, items will not be released early.
The Home Arts superintendent is Brenda Bishop, and questions may be directed to her at 461-0562. Remember, the fair is not just animals.
