Quay County District 3 Commissioner will be the only contested race in the June 1 primary election.
Quay County Clerk Ellen White closed the filing for the primary election at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
“This is going to be a good election,” White said.
District 3 County Commissioner and Chairman Franklin McCasland isn’t running because he is term-limited, White said.
“I have enjoyed serving the citizens of Quay County,” McCasland said. “It has been a pleasure and very rewarding to represent the county.”
Three candidates filed to run for McCasland’s District 3 commission seat. They are all Republicans:
• Edwin A. Bruhn of Logan
• Brad L. Bryant of San Jon
• Bill Cone of Logan
“It is good to see people that are interested in local politics,” McCasland said. “I wish all the candidates good luck.”
A drawing was held for ballot order for District 3 Commissioner. Bruhn and Cone were not present.
Deputy County Clerk Veronica Marez drew for Bruhn, who won first on the ballot. Bryant drew the second and Cone took the third spot.
The following incumbents are running unopposed:
• Probate Judge Sue Smith Moore
• Sheriff Joe Schallert
• Magistrate Judge David Joel Ganett
• Assessor Jaine L. Murray
