A single semi-tractor trailer accident three miles east of Santa Rosa stopped traffic on eastbound I-40 from Santa Rosa to Tucumcari for over an hour and sent the driver to the hospital according to the New Mexico State Police dispatch.
New Mexico Department of Transportation crews salted and sanded I-40 before reopening it to traffic.
The accident occurred at 4 p.m. Thursday, just east of Santa Rosa. Traffic was backed up as crews worked to clear the wreckage.
I-40 eastbound and westbound is open.
U.S. Highway 54 is open with traffic running slow.
