Meet Your Neighbor

Name: Isabel M. Jones

Profession: Manager of College Stores at Meslands Community College

Age: 39

Hometown: Alamogordo

Family: Her husband is Richard Jones, 40, and she has three sons — Ezekiel Sandoval, 17, Jose Sandoval, 19 and Randall Jones, 18

What’s your idea of a perfect day? A perfect day for me is spending quality time with my sons, and my husband, just enjoying one another. Now that my boys are teenagers these kind of days come seldom.

Tell us about your pets: I have three pets — a male and female pit bull that I have had since they were babies and my inside dog is a 1-year-old chocolate lab by the name of “Oso.” He’s like having another child.

What is your theme song? My song would have to be “The Dance” by Garth Brooks.

What would you like printed on your gravestone? Beloved, mother, sister, daughter and friend.

What do you think about Quay County? I think Quay County has been a great place to be a part of. It is the only place a person can come to start over, and actually make it.  This coming from a person who knows!

What’s your favorite TV show? CSI Miami.

Who is your favorite entertainer? Oprah. She is truly an inspiration.

Tell us about a time you cried: A time I cried would be when I lost my dad two years ago, and I cry for him every day.

Tell us about a happy time: When we used to get together, the whole family, at my mom and dad’s.

What was your most embarrassing moment? My most embarrassing moment had to have been when I fell into a puddle of mud in front of everybody.

Tell us a story about your childhood: I grew up in a family of six — Mom, Dad, two brothers, and one sister.  We didn’t have a lot of money but what we did have was love. We were very close growing up, in fact we did everything together.

Tell us a story about your mom or dad: My mom and dad were my best friends. My father passed away two years ago, and it hasn’t been the same since. My mom is a very strong woman and I like to say that I have a lot of her traits in me. She is my best friend.

What do you envision your life being like in 10 years? I envision myself 10 years from now still working, enjoying my life with my husband and my kids, and of course the grandkids.

Tell us about your greatest individual accomplishment: My greatest accomplishment would have to be me coming back to school after 10 years. I completed my pre-nursing and currently am working on my associate’s degree.

If I could do anything, I would ... take my mom to Rome to see the Vatican City.

What is your greatest fear? My greatest fear is not being everything I can be.

What is your greatest hope? My greatest hope is to be half the woman my mother turned out to be.

What is your favorite taste? Cinnamon.

What is your favorite smell? My favorite smell would be from my dad’s favorite flower, the white lilly.

Tell us about a time you were afraid: A time that I was truly afraid was when my dad had the first heart attack and I lived in Colorado. I didn’t think I was going to make it in time.

What’s your favorite part about your job? Working with all of the wonderful people here at the college.

What do you not like about your job? There is a lot to this job and every day is definitely a learning experience, but I know that it will make me a better person for the job.

Tell us about your first date: My first date was when I was 16 and it was with Richard Jiron from Reserve, New Mexico. It was the high school bonfire and I still have the stuffed animal he gave me.

Tell us how you met your spouse: I met my husband one morning when I stopped at a local Cirkle-K to grab a hot chocolate and we have been together ever since. I still say it was fate.

What is your most prized possession? My most prized possession would have to be my boys. They are my everything.

THREE QUESTIONS

Three questions with ... Tony Alarcon

He’s a Tucumcari Middle School teacher, the Tucumcari High volleyball coach and a longtime baseball fan.

1. The World Series between the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies starts tonight. Will you be watching and who will you be rooting for?

Yes I will be watching and I am going for the Yankees to win it all. Their pitching has been dominant and A-Rod (Alex Rodriguez) and Jeter (Derek Jeter) have been on fire.

2. Do you think it will be a blowout or a close series?
I think it is going to be a very competitive series with the Yankees coming out on top 4-3.

3. Do you have a favorite World Series?

Yes it would have to be the 1976 World Series between the Cincinnati Reds and the New York Yankees. The Yankees lost that year but then I was rooting for the Reds. They had the team with Ken Griffey Sr., Pete Rose and Johnny Bench on the roster.
