Two of Hedwig's relatives showed up for the last day of school and caused quite a stir on Thursday at the Tucumcari Elementary School.
In a tree at the school's north entrance, a pair of owls spent the entire school day perched in the upper branches. Throughout the day, classrooms of kids came to see the owls and ponder why they had decided to roost in that particular tree.
"I think they needed a place to stay," said third-grader Alyssa Martinez, 9. "They needed a home."
But to wise old owls, it's probably no surprise that the pair decided to stay near a school. Besides, they may have been waiting to give a message to the next Harry Potter.
