More officers will patrol I-40 for holiday
Holiday drivers will see increased law enforcement activity this weekend as they drive across New Mexico, according to a press release from the state’s Departemtn of Public Safety.
Travelers on I-10 and I-40 will see an intensive traffic safety effort for the Memorial Day Weekend.
Police officers will be patrolling both interstates from border to border. New Mexico officers also join law enforcement from Texas and Arizona to patrol the interstate enforcing speed, safety restraint and drunk driving laws on these Interstates in all three states, the release said.
There also will be saturation patrols, checkpoints and seatbelt operations at various times throughout the weekend in addition to the interstate operations, the release said.
Conchas airport slated for $100,000 for update
U.S. Senators Jeff Bingaman and Tom Udall announced this week that New Mexico will receive $5.6 million from the Department of Transportation (DOT) for projects at airports in Albuquerque, Las Cruces, Santa Fe and Conchas Lake, according to a press release.
DOT had previously provided $16.5 million for New Mexico airports under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
Conchas Lake Airport will receive $100,000 to rehabilitate its runway.
“ I am happy to see that these airports will be able to move forward with improving their facilities,” said Udall in the release.
