The Quay County Sheriff's Office is seeking any information about the shooting of a horse between Friday night and Saturday morning, said Sheriff Joe Schallert.
The horse was shot above its right knee and had to be put down, Schallert said.
"I think it was intentional," Schallert said. "There was a blood trail from the gate to the barn."
The horse was shot at the gate of a corral on Quay Road 62.9 and had managed to walk from the gate to the barn area where it found lying down, Schallert said.
Schallert said he received a call at 7:18 a.m. Saturday from the horse's owner, Kathy Kraft, Schallert's sister.
Kraft had seen the horse on Friday evening and when she went back on Saturday morning to check her animals, she found the wounded horse, the sheriff said.
"We'd like someone to come forward with some information," Schallert said.
A reward is being offered to anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest and conviction of this person, Schallert said.
