Alexandra Villanueva and Vickie Wallace have been selected as Mesalands Community College’s nominees for the 2009 New Mexico All-State Academic Team, according to a press release.
The Mesalands’ nominees have maintained a minimum cumulative 3.4 grade point average.
After judging of the applications, candidates qualifying for placement on the All-State Academic Team will receive a scholarship to a New Mexico college. This scholarship is renewable for four semesters up to the baccalaureate level.
All-State team members are automatically put into the running for the All-USA Academic Team. If selected, the All-USA team members will be featured in a special article in USA Today, the release said.
Villanueva, Secretary of the Beta Eta Omega chapter, is currently working on a degree in Accounting and Wallace, President of the Beta Eta Omega chapter, will graduate in May with an Associate’s degree in Liberal Arts-Communications.
“We are pleased that Alex and Vickie will be representing Mesalands Community College on the New Mexico All-State Academic Team,” said Aaron Kennedy, Dean of Student Services at Mesalands, in the release. “They have earned this recognition for their excellent academic achievements and for presenting a positive influence on campus as well as in the community.”
This year’s program is sponsored by the Coca-Cola Foundation, the American Association of Community Colleges and Phi Theta Kappa, the International Honor Society of two-year colleges, the release said.
