Young At Heart Choir set to sing Saturday
The Young At Heart Choir of Albuquerque will be presenting a concert at Center Street United Methodist Church at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. The public is invited.
The YAH choir is composed of senior citizens from various churches in Albuquerque They have been performing for over 19 years, under the direction of Connie Atkinson. They primarily sing gospel music, a lot of which has been produced by Gary Cook of the Bar D Wranglers of Durango, Colo.
A love offering will be taken to offset some of their expenses.
Goar elected grand warden of Rebekahs
Serena Goar of Tucumcari was elected and installed as grand warden in late September at the Rebekah and IOOF grand assembly in Las Cruces.
The Rebekahs are a fraternal organization which is based on friendship, love and truth, Goar said.
“We reach out to the community through support of different projects, such as Ronald McDonald House, Arthritis Foundation, Eye Bank, Autism,” Goar said.
Goar has a been a member of the Rebekahs for about 48 years. She initially joined the the Rebekah lodge in Tucumcari, where she served as noble grand warden and held other leadership positions.
She is presently vice grand warden and musician in Friendship No. 21 in Clovis. Goar plays the piano.
Born in La Junta, Colo., she came with her family to Tucumcari as a child and is a 1946 graduate of THS. She worked for 48 years at First National Bank, now Wells Fargo.
She was widowed in 1983 when her first husband, Olen L. McDonald, died.
She and her present husband, Melvin Goar, were married in 1997.
Goar said she keeps busy as a certified volunteer for Helping Hands Hospice, and as a member of Eastern Star No. 44 and has served as worthy matron, and a member of the Red Hat Society.

Logan American Legion
sponsoring Christmas craft fair Saturday
The American Legion Auxiliary of Logan is having a Christmas craft fair on Saturday.
The day will begin with a pancake breakfast at 8 a.m. at the American Legion Bingo Hall.
There will also be a bake sale and lunch.
Activities from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Festival of Trees set for Dec. 6 in Tucumcari
The city of Tucumcari and the Tucumcari Convention Center is inviting everyone to a Dec. 6 Christmas festival that will help others, according to a press release from Ron Wilmot, director of the convention center.
All proceeds after costs will go to local charity food baskets, the release said.
It’s hoped that organizations, clubs, churches and businesses will decorate a tree for the Festival of Trees.
Guests are being asked to vote for their favorite tree by donating a dollar to choose their favorite.
A style show during a Dutch Treat luncheon is also being featured.
Other activities will include a Chili Cook off in the afternoon and we are seeking entries, and a Pecan Cook off.
And in the evening Santa arrives after the Christmas Light parade.
