Rummage sale will
benefit scholarships
Proceeds from a rummage sale will help the Tucumcari Education Association fund its scholarship program, said Tucumcari elementary school teacher Martha O’Rear.
Community donations will be accepted for the sale from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Tucumcari Elementary School Cafeteria.
The rummage sale will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the cafeteria. The  cafeteria entrance is at 1701 S. 9th St.

Dems set to hold rally Saturday
A Democratic rally to meet and discuss the issues with candidates and their representatives will be at 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at Dunn Park. Representatives of candidates running for national, state and local offices are expected. Local candidates, Ellen White who is running for re-election as Quay County Clerk and Donna Dominquez whos is seeking the Quay County Treasurer's office will also be available to answer questions. Free hotdogs will be served.

Fiddler to perform Saturday
Canadian fiddle, stepdancing champion, and singer, April Verch will lead her four-piece piece band  to perform at the Tucumcari High School Auditorium at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Hearing her work, promoters say,  is like hopping a supersonic freight train from an old lumber camp in northern Ontario, across the prairie, through the Appalachians, down the Mississippi to the Louisiana Bayou, across the sea to Brazil, France, the Scottish Highlands and back, with stops at Carnegie Hall and churches thrown in for good measure.

Chautauqua for retired educators on Monday
Performer Ron Grimes will tell the story of Troop I, 111th Cavalry New Mexico National Guard.
Grimes will portray  his father, Pvt. Wayne B. Grimes, who was a  trooper in the Carlsbad-based cavalry unit from 1936 to 1938.
“Echoes of the Bugle” recalls the adventures of one of the last horse cavalry regiments in the United States.
The program is at 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 29 at the Pow Wow restaurant. There is no charge. If you would like to attend call 461-9635.
