U.S. Rep. Tom Udall (D-N.M.) has organized events at high schools across New Mexico’s Third District, including Tucumcari, to help students and their families learn about America’s service academies, according to a press release.
Representatives from the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Military Academy and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy will be present, the release said.
“Each year, many of America’s brightest young people accept the honor, the opportunity and the responsibility that comes with admission to a service academy,” said Udall in the release. “Academy Days are an opportunity for New Mexico students to learn about the demanding and rewarding path that begins at our nation’s military academies.”
Each year, Udall nominates outstanding students for appointments to the nation’s five military academies. Any student in the Third District who meets the eligibility requirements may apply for a Congressional nomination, the release said.
