Hummingbird Music Camp is calling on all former campers, counselors, and teachers to return to camp at end of May to celebrate the camp’s 50th birthday.
The New Mexico music camp in the Jemez Mountainsis celebrating its 50th season with a weekend dedicated to reliving its alumni’s memories, making new ones, and celebrating the memory of the camp’s founder, K.L. “Lloyd” Higgins.
Dozens of children from Tucumcari attended the camp.
The camp’s birthday will be celebrated with a special weekend dedicated to all alumni May 23-25, Memorial Day weekend. The weekend has been planned to reminisce, relive, and participate in optional activities such as campfire, hikes, Saturday night dance, friendship circle,, concert and more.
Former campers, counselors, teachers and parents are already writing to Wanda Higgins about their memories and experiences, and sending photos to be displayed at the celebration.
K.L. Higgins’ dream to build a camp for children in the mountains and to share his love for music came true 50 years ago with his wife, Wanda Higgins, and their children. He started the camp in 1959 with the help of his friend and fellow philanthropist, Chester French.
Registration begins Friday afternoon and continues Saturday morning. Rehearsal will be available for all those who want to participate on Sunday afternoon.
