Tucumcari woman in I-40 accident
Published: Monday, November 12th, 2007
A Tucumcari woman was killed Sunday in a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 40 between Tucumcari and Santa Rosa, police said.
Catherine Martinez, 48, was killed about 4 p.m. when the car she was driving rolled one and a half times in the center median and landed upside down, New Mexico State Police patrolman Mark Younce said. Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene, Younce said.
Martinez's son, Felix, 28, a passenger in the vehicle, was taken to the Guadalupe County Hospital, where he was treated and released, Younce said.
The vehicle was traveling west on I-40 and had entered Guadalupe County when the accident occurred, Younce said.
Both persons were wearing seatbelts, Younce said.
The accident is being attributed to driver inattention and over-compensation, Younce said.
