Students send off drug-free messages in balloons

Tucumcari’s elementary students released more than 800 with a “Drug-free” message into the sky from the school on Tuesday.
The playground activity was all part of Red Ribbon Week: Oct 23 - 31.
Activities are planned for all of Tucumcari’s schools throughout the week. They include everything from the balloon release to a door decorating contest to coloring contests to give-aways to prizes.
An assembly program for high school and middle school students is also on tap.
Red Ribbon Week’s finale will be from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday at the Red Ribbon Carnival with booths, inflatible Bouncers, a haunted house, lots of candy, prizes and fun, say organizers.
In addition, the City of Tucumcari and Quay County have proclaimed this week Red Ribbon Week.
