Community Notes: Opening new Logan school performing arts, DAR awards

Performing Arts Center at Logan to debut At 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 8, the Logan Municipal School will host an open house to celebrate the new Performing Arts Center, at Logan schools. The school will recognize all key individuals who contributed to the success of the new construction projects at Logan schools. DAR recognizes Constitution Week The Daughters of the American Revolution had a busy week observing Constitution Week Sept. 17-23 getting the word out and encouraging students to learn about the Constitution as well as observing its 220th Anniversary. Peggy Szaloy’s high school drama class performed the play, “The Constitutional Convention,” at the Tucumcari High School Auditorium on Sept. 18, 2007. In addition, all area schools were contacted and encouraged to participate in the many activities by DAR including a poster contest with the theme “Let Freedom Ring.” Many creative posters were received and are currently on display at the Tucumcari Public Library with the following winners and honorable mention posters on display in the lobby of the Tucumcari Post Office: DAR awards at Tucumcari Elementary School: First Place - Victoria Trujillo, 3rd grade Second Place - D’Lanor Briggins, 5th grade Third Place - Roxanne Thurman, 5th grade Honorable Mention - Samantha Ford, 3rd grade Honorable Mention - Dominic Trujillo, 5th grade Honorable Mention - Eliana Andrada, 4th grade DAR awards at Tucumcari Middle School First Place - Nicole McKinney, 8th grade Second Place - Saul Celis, 7th grade Third Place - Michelle Fazekas, 8th grade Honorable Mention - Kierra Proctor, 8th grade Honorable Mention - Kendra Smith, 7th grade Honorable Mention - Holly Baxter, 8th grade Season tickers on sale Season tickets to the Arts & Humanities program are available at the Chamber of Commerce.
