First pecan seminar set for Oct. 4

Quay County, along with the New Mexico Pecan Growers Association and Northeastern District, will host a New Mexico Cooperative Extension Pecan Seminar on Oct 4, according to a press release. “This program will be for both small and large scale type pecan producers. I think we have something to offer everyone, with the quality of speakers and the expertise they bring to the seminar we look forward to a very educational program,” said Tom Dominguez, Quay County Extension agent, in the release. Topics include: l“Pecan Varieties for NE New Mexico”, Tommy Thompson, USDA Ag. Research Service – Brownwood, Texas l Fertilizer Requirements, Water Management and Pruning by Dr. Richard Heerema, NMSU Pecan Specialist l Marketing, Terry Crawford, NMSU Extension Economist, and Pest Management, Brad Lewis, Extension Entomologist. Also, one NMDA General Use Pesticide Applicators Credit will be offered through the event. The seminar will begin with registration at 9:30 a.m. at the Mesalands Community College Building A Great Room. The seminar will last from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
