Controls on market better than ‘free’ market scenario Your editorial page is always ridiculing government's attempts to put controls on the "free" market or influence it by taxes, subsidies or laws. I have two questions. One: Why are our health care costs more than any other industrialized nation and we rank about 25th in the world? The health care industry is controlled by the all mighty "free" market. Two: Why is Japan years ahead of the United States in the broadband? They have speeds on fiber of up to 100 megabits per second, about five to 10 times faster than ours and considerably cheaper. How did they do this: In brief by laws, subsidies and tax breaks.   Leon Logan Tucumcari
